Steps

  1. 01

Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (400°F) for 3 minutes. Brush the frozen fillets with olive oil on both sides, then season with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.

  2. 02

Place the fillets in the basket without overlapping. Cook at 200°C for 8 minutes, flip carefully, then cook another 7 minutes until the fish is opaque, flakes easily with a fork, and reaches 63°C (145°F) internally.

  3. 03

Squeeze lemon over the fillets and serve immediately.

Why it works

Why does frozen food cook well in an air fryer?

Ice crystals on frozen food turn to steam under heat, keeping the interior moist while the air fryer's rapid circulation strips that steam away fast, crisping the exterior before it goes soggy. Cooking time is only 3–5 minutes longer than fresh — no thawing needed.

What is the Maillard reaction?

The Maillard reaction is a chemical reaction between amino acids and sugars that occurs at temperatures above 140°C (280°F). It creates the brown color, complex flavors, and aromas you associate with seared meat, toasted bread, and roasted vegetables. It's not caramelization — that's sugar-only.
